I neglected a lot of my bills in the past and was just recently able to get it all fixed up. Despite that, the bad credit stays on the record for too long and I can’t get a loan. Any suggestions of places to go or what to do? I’m in San Diego, California.

If you have a relationship with a bank, start there. The bank may not be able to give you a loan but be able to direct you to another financial institution that could. You will likely be paying subprime interests rates. I recently got a loan through Wells Fargo Financial. Also, just be careful of the loan scammers out there. Do not give your personal information to any lender until you can verify the business name, address and phone number. And the best tipoff that it is a scam is that the lender will ask for upfront money before you receive the loan. That is illegal in the United States and Canada. Good luck to you.
